Genre: Comedy or Historical Fiction
Told in First Person Point of View, through the eyes of Holling Hoodhood
PLOT: Every Wednesday, most of the students in Holling's 7th grade class take buses to Hebrew school or catechism classes. Holling is the only student who doesn't. Because of this, he and Mrs. Baker spend one hour together every Wednesday. Holling thinks that Mrs. Baker hates him since she is forced to spend a usually free Wednesday afternoon with him. He and Mrs. Baker spend the time reading Shakespeare plays, which he begins to memorize since he enjoys them so much. With a demanding father, who's job depends on reputation, Holling has a lot of responsibilty on his plate. I like how the plot includes many funny episodes, such as escaping rats who keep showing up at the worst times. I also like that the plot has serious moments, such as when it deals with the Vietnam War. I would change the part when another teachers' husband is killed in the Vietnam War.
SETTING: Long Island, New York 1960's During the Vietnam War Most of the story takes place in Holling's 7th grade classroom
This book is about Holling Hoodhood. During his 7th grade year, he has to deal with many mishaps and adventures.
