Haroun and the Sea of Stories
Salman Rushdie
Individuality
Jon Tortorici
Individuality is represented at the very beginning of the book,, as it mentions a sadness factory and that everyone was glum, as are the glum fish in the picture, but Haroun's family wasn't sad at this time, they were all actually happy.
Most men had stable jobs in his village, but Haroun's dad was very different, he made a living out of telling stories.
Haroun's family was not very big, unlike many of the other families in his village.
''No bird could fly so fast. Is this a machine?'' This shows individuality because even though Butt the Hoopoe was a machine, he still had a distinct personality.
Rashid, “whose cheerfulness was famous throughout that unhappy metropolis,” stood out from the other people, who were always glum as represented with the glum fish.
