The Conquistadors
The conquistadors were soldiers, adventurers, and explorers who were the first Europeans to traverse the Americas. They were the first Spaniards to access The New World, which they used divide and conquer techniques to gain control over. They utilized their superior armor and weapons to overhaul the tribes in the Americas. Generally, conquistadors were men in their mid 30's who had fought earlier in the Crusades. They were also aided by disease, which rapidly killed off many Native Americans. This was one reason why they were able to conquer so much land in such a short period of time. With other advantages such as guns and horses, the Spaniards were able to control much of the americas. The significance is that this discovery led to much more settling and expansion in the Americas, which is the basis of many contemporary cultures. The Native Americans were afraid of the Conquistadors because they had things such as guns, which were limited in their ability but they were a sign of power, with the light and sound they emitted.
They overtook the Incan Empire without much difficulty becasue many of the Incans had already been eliminated by smallpox.
