The Holocaus is the term generally used to describe the genocide of approximately six million European Jews during World War II. The persecution and genocide were carried out in stages. Legislation to remove the Jews from civil society was enacted years before the outbreak of World War II. Concentration camps were established in which inmates were used as slave labor until they died of exhaustion or disease. The Artists name is Peter Aldor. He has a series of photos showing a family living well, then people come in and take them, put them in camps, then at the end, throwing there bodies in a ditch with others. I believe this symbolizes greatly what happened through the beginning of this genocide. I chose this picture because it seemed to be a great pictation of the event. This art work was moving towards me because this is what actually happened to people. The picture evokes mostly anger that people are actually capable of doing these horrible things to innocent Jews. The Jews as well as several other ethnicities were killed in this genocide. I think the artists purpose in making this is to depict in detail how it happened. Another outgoing feature of the Holocaust was the large use of human subjects in medical experiments. German physicians did such experiments at Auschwitz, Dachau, Buchenwald, Ravensbrck, Sachsenhausen and Natzweiler concentration camps. The most famous of these physicians was Dr. Josef Mengele, who worked in Auschwitz. His experiments were mostly placing subjects in pressure chambers, testing drugs on them, and freezing them. In conclusion, the painting evokes many emotions, but mostly anger. It's purpose was to describe the beginning of the holocaust. It symbolized how many Jews died and conveys the cruel events that occured. Peter Aldor, the creator of these pieces of art, is an amazing artist, to heart.
