Um pouco sobre o livro moby dick
Traduçao! Há pouco tempo terminei a leitura de Moby Dick, uma obra fantástica e emocionante. Com a leitura desta obra conclui que os sentimentos de vingança e ódio só servem para o ser humano se auto-destruir. Elaborei um resumo da obra que gostaria de partilhar convosco… A acção desta história passa-se na América do Norte, no século XIX. O narrador é participante, assumindo o papel de personagem principal: Ismael. Ismael é um rapaz melancólico mas atraído e fascinado pelo mar, já tendo feito viagens pela marinha mercante. Curioso com a actividade da caça à baleia, resolve partir para Nantucket, fazendo escala em New Bedford. Fica alojado numa estalagem onde conhece Queequeg, um arpoador pagão. Após uma semana, partem juntos para Nantucket onde escolhem um navio apropriado para a sua expedição de caça à baleia: o Pequod. Tentaram conhecer o capitão, mas em vão, porque lhes disseram que este estava doente. Só passado um mês a bordo do Pequod (quando entraram em águas quentes) é que o capitão saiu do seu camarote. Chamava-se Ahab. A sua cara era sulcada de rugas, sem expressão. Era um homem aterrador, mas o aspecto mais assustador era a sua perna esquerda de marfim. Tinha-lhe sido arrancada numa das suas viagens, por Moby Dick, um cachalote branco. Tudo o que Ahab queria era destruir a Baleia Branca para se vingar da amputação que sofrera. Ao fim de vários meses avistaram finalmente uma mancha branca no horizonte, cravada de arpões e marcada de cicatrizes. Era Moby Dick. Lançaram-se na sua perseguição que durou três dias e lhes custou seis homens e duas baleeiras. No terceiro dia a batalha foi feroz. As baleeiras foram arriadas e, nesse momento de distracção, a baleia atacou. O navio, vulnerável, ficou completamente destruído, mas o capitão Ahab continuou a lutar, cego pela vingança. O arpão que matou a baleia foi o arpão que matou Ahab, pois este ficou com o pescoço preso na corda do arpão, sendo arrastado com ela. Ismael foi o único sobrevivente, flutuando num caixão-bóia de salvação. No segundo dia apareceu um barco, que o recolheu.
