Wilma Rudolph
Wilma was four years old, when she and her family found out that she had polio. Sence they were African American thwy couldn't take Wilma to the city hospital because it was for whites only. Wilma was cripple until she was 12 years old and was able to walk with out the leg brace.
After Wilma healed from polio, she went onto sports. She was a basketbal star, but lots of times spent most of her time on the side line. when she was on the court she was the best. After wilma finished basketball a track coach encouraged her to run and she did. In 1960 she entered the Olympics. Wilma was the fastest women alive. She retired at age 22 and went onto becoming a track coach for young women.
Wilma died in 1994 from brain cancer. Evn though she is no longer alive she lives on in many young runners.
