STOLON!! =D
Source: http://www.sparknotes.com/biology/microorganisms/fungi/ and leavingbio.net/FUNGUS/Fungi2.htm And the song is No Sunlight by Death Cab for Cutie... because I said so.
The stolon is usually above the surface. It is the group of hyphae that connects the rhizoids and sporangiophores (zygomycota). The stolon helps to provide support and is a key part of the fungi. The rhyzoids branch down from the bottom like roots and the sporangiophores branch upward.
