Old pond, A frog jumps in, Sound of water.
This is a Japanese poem called “Haiku” which is a poem that doesn’t have a title, and will sounds 5letters, 7letters and then 5letters again if it’s read in Japanese. The writer, Basho was captivated and wrote about the beauty of collaboration of the splash sound and the silent old pond. This poem gave me an impression that the pond is quiet even it doesn't say so. I researched for this Haiku translated into English, and I thought this was written detail the most. A lonely pond in age-old stillness sieeps Apart, unstirred by sound or motion Till suddenly into it a lithe frog leaps
Although this is the most detailed, I chose to use the different one because the translation above is not a Haiku.. Haiku has a meaning on its shortness. How a poet can imperss their feeling in the short sentences, I think that is the importance about writing Haiku. I strongly felt that it is difficult to translate Haiku into English. What I like about this poem is its calmness. In my head, I made a scenery of silent forest, small and old pond, a frog jumps into the pond and the sound echoes in the forest. This poem makes me very relaxed, and tells me the mysteriousness of the silence of the forest and the pond.
