What happens when your twin is gone forever?
Parent and siblings:
Having a twin is like having built-in-buddy. They do everything together, play, go to school, relationships. But sometimes they need a break from each other.
Step 1: Grieve in your own way. Don't let other people tell you that grieving is wrong. Do whatever makes yourself get over the loss
Step 2: Relize that this is the biggest grief you'll experience.
Step3: Understand that no one can replace your twin.
Step 4: Continue to value your twinness. Twins are twins even seperated by death.
Step 5: Talk to others about your twin...talking can really help.
Step 6: Celebrate your birthday however you want.
Step 7: Join a support group for twinless twins.
Step 8: Seek out a counsler to help you handle your loss.
The Twinless Twin:
There are three groups of people that all deal with a death of a twin, the twin themselves, parents and siblings, and friends.
Step 1: Attend the viewing or funeral of the twin.
Step 2: Spend time witht he surviving twin.
Step 3: Comfort the parents as well.
Step 4: Keep the memory of the twin alive.
Step 1: Let yourself feel the pain of both your lost child and your livng one.
Step 2: Let yourself grieve on your twins milestone.
Step 3: Try not to get into too much of your living twins behavior
Step 4: Don't smoother your surviving twin or pull away.
Step 5: Let them know that they were always born with a twin and always will have a twin.
Step 6: If your living twin is young give her a book about twins.
Step 7: Relize that at any age when a twin loses their twin it's going to hurt.
