Math 101!
Average: Average is a term that can be used to describe a set of data. Mean, median, and mode can all be considered averages.
Mean: Calculated by adding all of the values and dividing by the number of values there are.
The mean can be greatly affected by rather large or small numbers!
The median is said to have 50% of the data before it, and 50% of the data after it (being exactly in the middle. However, the median can still be calculated if these numbers are not even, by adding together the two middle numbers and dividing them by two.
Median: Calculated by writing a set of data from smallest to largest, and finding the middle number.
Mode: The mode in a set of data, is the value that occurs the most. For example: 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 8, 8 8 would be the mode.
Outliers: Outliers are the extremities in a set of data. These are values that are significantly higher, or lower than the other values in a data set. For example: -28, 4, 7, 12, 9, 100 -28 and 100 would be outliers.
