I look out at all the people They all seem to be so happy and content They have what they want in life Or are on their way to achieving what they want They walk by me Some hand in hand with their one true love Some talking in groups Some alone But even the people who are alone look happy Everyone seems to know that they have a good life and that they know who they are Except for one person She is in a group of people But she is'n't talking to them She hangs at the back of the group as if she is trying not to be seen As if she wants to be somewhere else As if she knows she doesn't belong with the happy people She looks like she wants to be somewhere away from the chaos of the street While everyone seems relaxed She seems worried Almost afraid of what is going on around her I can see that she doesn't want to be there She is putting up a front to pretend that she likes being with her friends That she is fine and happy But I can see the truth I can see that she is troubled inside That she is faking her emotions to make others happy To make sure other people aren't worried about her I can see in her eyes that as soon as she gets home she will basically shut down Because at home she doesn't have to pretend Because no one is there to see her But I can tell that she doesn't want to fake who she is But she feels she has to She sacrifices herself just so that other people can be happy So other people can accept her So other people don't have to worry about her She despises her life and she hates who she has become She knows she will never truly be with the happy people if she keeps on faking who she is But the fake life is the only life she knows Her whole life is a mask and its the only one she wears So she will never be content or happy Because she will never be able to take off the mask
