Fads of the 60's There were many tragic things that happened in the 1960’s, such as Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, and Kennedy’s assassination. The most tragic of them all was a fad that had destroyed a lot of America’s population. This fad was drug abuse. Many of America’s population had been wiped out because of this. The most common drug used in the 60’s was marijuana. Other drugs abused were sex drugs, cocaine, and heroin. People began using drugs in the early 1960’s. Some very famous entertainers have died from drug abuse in the 60’s such as Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. To many people the 60’s will be known as a very tragic decade. Beastly Beatles The 60’s were one of the most memorable decades of the 20th century. There was always something going on in the 60’s, like Neil Armstrong becoming the 1st man to walk on the moon to Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination. One of the things that I find very interesting about the 60’s is the entertainment. The 60’s were the decade when the when the legendary Beatles became popular. They started gaining fame in 1964. They wrote 12 songs that had the honor of reaching the Hot 100 chart. Some of these songs were “Can’t Buy Me Love”, “Twist and Shout”, “She Loves You”, and “Please Please Me”. Sadly the Beatles broke up at around 1970 due to conflicts within the band members; also they felt they were too old because they were all close to their 30’s. Another reason the Beatles broke up was because they knew each other too well and they didn’t inspire each other anymore. Another contributor to the Beatle’s break-up was their manager’s death. Even though the Beatles no longer play music for us their music will always remain in our hearts. Man on the Moon Most people remember the 60’s as the most interesting decade of the 20th century. In the 60’s there was an event that occurred that changed history. This event was when Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon in 1969 in the Apollo 11 Mission. Neil Armstrong landed on the moon on Sunday July, 20 1969 at 10:56 P.M. There were so many people watching their television and listening to their radio when this historic event occurred. So many fascinating things happened in the 60’s but the event listed was just one of them.
