perhaps at one point
in time I wore a smile
but no matter how hard I try
full of colour and vitality
to hide the black tar
my once so alive heart
as years of pain and anger have married
but that has faded
to a dark shade of grey
a smile on my face
that is searing through the heart entomed within my chest
I have to attemted to keep
to wash away the pain
it doesn't seem to go away.
