What is a stem cell? A stem cell is a cell that has the ability to become any cell based on the signal it recieves from the nucleus.
Pros. 1. repairs damaged tissue 2. Cell's taken are exact DNA matches 3. provides hope!
Cons. 1. Could cause painful destruction of bone marrow 2. embryonic cells are taken directly from embryo 3. Religious belifes
My views. I belive that stem cell research is a good thing. As long as doctors are carefull with their patients, it could solve a lot of problems. Reserch shows that people who have tissue damaged by cancer do better after they recive the stem cell transplant. It is a technique that should be used with caution, but it does more good than harm. Not everyone should use it, but it seems that there are many cases where it is a nesecary thing.
Question E. I think that it would depend on the embryo. Most of the embrios are frozen for people who are going to war, or who have been unable to have children with their partner. I think that the only way the reserch should be allowed is with the doner's permission. Otherwise, if you just use an embryo who's doner has died, you could be going against their wishes. Freezing embryos is a way for people to have a second chance, it's just wrong to use them for reserch if there is still a chance of the donor needing or wanting it.
