The Industrial Revolution
Virgina became over-populated with slaves, so it then became the place to buy and sell slaves.
Slaves were being seperated from their families, sold, and taken westward to work in cotton fields.
The invention of the cotton gin during the industrail revolution, caused many people to move westward to grow the profitable crop of cotton, bringing their slaves with them.
Jacksonian Democracy
The spread of the right to vote among white males. Not only were they becoming more aware of their right, but they were exercising this right as well. There is now a vast westward movement. America now has lseemingly limitless western future. Immigration is beginning from Europe, and the whole idea of the American dream, of the small, free farmer who can take his family and move to America and get a new beginning, is appealing to more and more people.
To whites the cottin gin was progress, while to slaves it was not progress, but just farther means of enslavement.
