The Black Death

• What were the immediate reactions of both the parties involved?

• What were the short and long term consequences of the interaction?

• What were the conditions like for the travelers?

As soon as people heard about the plague, the ones who had any wealth would escape from the cities to live in the country. The ports tried to quarantine ships but without success. The cities did not know how to segregate the people who had the plague from the rest of the population, so in turn the plague spread quickly.

The short term consequence was that many millions of people died horribly in a very short period of time and panic spread throughout Europe. Some people turned to religion for comfort and others turned from religion and tried to live life while they had time. The long term consequences were actually very positive for people who had to work for a living because their wages went up traumatically, because there were a lot less workers so there was more work for the people left. Also, living standards began to go up for the working class. For the owners, they had a problem, since they had to pay higher wages and there were not enough workers to farm, their wealth decreased a lot.

The plague came from ships that had been to Asia and it was carried by the fleas that lived on the rats of the ships. The people had no concept of germs that could cause the disease, so they had no idea how to treat the plague. The only method they had was quarantine. The problem was though that the quarantine was not enforced strongly and 25 to 30% of Europeans died from the plague.

Actually I'd seen the movie Black Death, which has good suspense. Moreover a war, historical movie named City Of Life and Death is coming out. http://www.moviesorb.com/city-of-life-and-death-overview
