Brad Paisley
While contemplating our options for activities to do the upcoming weekend, my friend Kaitlin and I were caught by surprised when we stumbled upon a website advertising two of our favorite country singers playing at our local amphitheater that Friday night. Darius Rucker was opening for Brad Paisley at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, and we could hardly contain our exhilaration while we began to plan out a night that we believed would be perfect. We knew we were one step away from seeing some of the best country music anyone could ask for, so we bought our tickets. While buying our tickets we were struck with a surge of excitement and anticipation, it felt as though we were eight years old and had just bought our first ticket to Disney World. The week before the concert seemed to drag on forever; Friday could not come fast enough. Waking up on Friday felt equivalent to that of a ten year old waking up on Christmas yearning to see their presents. I raced to Kaitlin’s house as fast as I could while wearing my country outfit: short jean shorts, black cowboy boots, and my cowboy hat. When I dashed into Kaitlin’s room we got pre-hyped by singing and dancing to her blasting country music before the parking lots opened for the night at the Amphitheater. Our waiting, anticipation, and excitement all paid off for the one moment we were waiting for: hearing the radio host declare that the parking lots were now open! When we got there the place was packed with others who share our love for country music. There were all sorts of people there singing and dancing to the opening bands having a high-quality time. As we weaved our way through the maze of all the different types of people we found a perfect spot on the lawn with a perfect view of the stage. Suddenly, a noise so loud erupted from all around me that I felt paralyzed for a moment. I couldn’t think, talk, or move. There was nothing that I could think of that could bring such an enormous reaction out of so many people at once. Then, i saw the source of everyone’s excitement and adrenaline, Darius Rucker had finally taken the stage to open for Brad Paisley. The crowd erupted with noise, singing, applause, and almost everyone was one their feet dancing. I found myself joining in with dancing and singing words that I didn’t know not caring about how crazy I looked. Whenever I hear a song on the radio I picture what that song would be like if I heard it live, and Darius was nothing like I ever would have expected. The opening act was so great that I couldn’t even imagine what Brad Paisley was going to be like. There was no way he could live up to such a great opening performance from Darius Rucker. I have never been to too many concerts, and after Darius Rucker I couldn’t imagine anyone following him that could be better. I was completely wrong. I thought the noise when Darius Rucker walked onto the stage was loud. The amount of applause and shouting when Brad Paisley took the stage was somewhere at 10 decibels louder then that of when Darius played. I had no idea what to think. The crowd was going insane, those who weren’t standing on their feet before were now on their feet jumping as high as they could. The amount of positive energy in that crowd significantly surpassed that of any type of energy I had ever felt from a crowd. I could hardly wait to hear my favorite country songs played live. He started playing a new song of his that I wasn’t too familiar with and I didn’t know many of the words; however, his music and his facade on stage had me dancing and singing the entire night. Looking around I saw people looking like they were thinking this was as close to Heaven as they could get on earth. Some people simply seemed like if they could then they would stay here listening to Brad Paisley forever. I have never seen something cause such a reaction out of so many people at the same time. Every song Brad Paisley played he played with perfection and precision. Brad Paisley has all ways been one of my favorite Country singers, but this concert made me fall in love with him all over again. This concert is one of those nights that you try to explain how you felt and the energy that was present in the crowd the entire time, but you end up saying, “You had to be there”. The experience was so indescribable that no one could give it justice by trying to describe it.
I was very excited this year to write about my Telling paper. I knew I had to write about a Brad Paisley concert because it was such a great event and it is so much fun to describe. The telling essay helped at the beginning of the year to write out my own college essay and to show the reader with descriptions and imagery, not just write out facts. This paper definitely helped me in the long run this school year to make my papers more descriptive and captivating.
