Summer temperatures in the desert often reach 100 degrees. However, at night, they can get down to 45 degrees and lower. Most deserts average less than 10 inches of precipitation each year.
Oil drilling in Israel is a big problem. The edesert is very sensitive. There are many rare species in the desert. If oil drilling is continued, it could kill many of them.
Desert Biomes are located in the South-Western US, Northern Mexico, Baja, California, and Arizona.
Common animals of the desert are the Jackrabbit, Camel, and Bobcat.
During World War II, the soldiers drove their tanks through the desert. Now, almost 70 years later, the tracks are still there. The crust, frmed by microorganisms, prevents surface soil from blowing away.
The most common plants of the desert are Cacti, Cave Primrose, and Tumbleweed.
One symbiotic relationship is the one between the camel and the dung beetle. The camel provides the dung that feeds the dung beetle's larvae. In return, the beetle helps fertilize the soil that grows the camels food.
