Profile

Christian IV was the son of Fredrick II of Denmark born in 1577. His mother was Sofie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. When his father died on April 4, 1588, Christian became the king of the joint kingdom of Denmark and Norway. Because of his young age, he did not gain his majority (full power) until August 17, 1596. During his reign, he married Anne Catherine of Brandenburg, who was a princess of Prussia.; she died in 1612, so Christian then married Kristen Munk. As King, Christian's main goal was to strengthen the kingdom. Christian died on the 28 February, 1648, and he is still considered one of the most remarkable kings in the history of Denmark.
