Did you know that the Mayans were one of the first civilizations to understand the concept of zero? Pretty cool!
The Mayan's number system helped them to count very, very high. They could count into the thousands! That's pretty good for an ancient civilization!
Did you know that the Mayan number system helped them to create a calendar?
Mayans had an excellent understanding of numbers. They had made a calendar based on 260. days. Mayans did not use numbers to make their calendars. They used designs, shapes, and people. The Mayan calendar is predicted to end in 2012.
Mayans also used numbers to help them figure out their astronomy, the Mayan Cosmos, and building structures!
