Hmong Culture
This is an example of Hmong Textile Art. They use their intricately stiched pictures to tell stories and the history of their people.
During the Vietnam War, the CIA recruited many Hmong soldiers to help them fight against the communists. Once the Americans left, a communist regime took over and started killing anyone who helped the Americans. So the U.S. opened refugee camps for many of the fleeing Hmong. Today there are many Hmong people living in California and other areas of the U.S.
The Hmong people practice Shamanism which is based on traditional spiritual practices. The Hmong New Year is a cultural celebration that is very important part of the Hmong culture. They have a large celebration where they dance and do other rituals.
