DIABETES
HISTORY NAME- Joe Kiaser SEX- Male AGE- 18 WIEGHT- 155 lbs D-O-B- October28, 1991 ALLERGIES- Cats, Bee stings PREVIOUS VISITS- Visited last week complaining of being thirsty all the time and being very irratable.
November 5, 2009 SIGNS/SYMPTOMS- Been thirsty alot, very irratable, frequently urinating. DIOGNOSIS- Type 1 Diabetes. DOCTORS NOTE- Patient came in complaing of urinating alot, also beeing very thirsty, and irratable. TREATMENT- Type 1 diabetes is treated with insulin, exercise, and a diabetic diet.
WHAT IS DIABETES? Diabetes is a disorder that affects the way your body uses food for energy. Normally, the sugar you take in is digested and broken down to a simple sugar, known as glucose. The glucose then circulates in your blood where it waits to enter cells to be used as fuel. Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, helps move the glucose into cells. A healthy pancreas adjusts the amount of insulin based on the level of glucose. But, if you have diabetes, this process breaks down, and blood sugar levels become too high.
BACKGROUND: Joe is a young athletic boy who has a lot going for him he plays on the football team. The bad thing about Joe is he always eats fast food because he is always on the go and he does not have the time to go home and cook a good dinner.
