One thing i can say for certain about hurricanes is they're huge-horribly huge.Im talking 2,000 years times wider than a tornado! Those are the real biggies of course, but even the smallest can be about the same seize as a countrey like Icland. The real giants can stretch from Australia to the other. They're tall too.Up to 10km high. Imagin all the stroms hanging over you!
In the USA. Hurricanes are graded one to five depending on the wind speed, pressure and the damage they do.Grade one means you've got a pretty pathetic hurricane on your hands which is lucky for you wont cause to much chaos. But get up to five and you're talking full scene disaster. These killers are going to cause trouble wherever they strike. So make sure you stay well away!
You need some pretty speedy wind speeds to make a hurricane. At least 119km an hour to qualify. Of course ny hurricane standards thats nothing, they can blow much harder than that. Oh yes,in a full scene hurricane, the winds roar along faster than an express train at over 300 km per hour you'll find the strongest winds in the eye wall, thats the ring of clouds around the eye. The smaller eye the fatser the winds swirl.Oooh just thinking about it makes me shudder!
For some weird reason scientists call young hurricanes seedlings they start out as a small cluster of thunderstroms then travel thousands of kms across the seas before they bloom into proper stroms. Blookming hurricanes take their time to get where they're going. But they can keep moving at the same pace day after day, night after night, for a week or so, so they certainly cover some ground! Im keeping well out of their way!
facts: Hurricanes could have their uses. A medium siezed hurricane is bursting with more energy than a nuclear bomb. If you could turn a days energy from a hurricane into electricity it would take the USA in power for 6 hole mounths. Which would be absolutely fantastic think of all the money it would save! Theres just one teensy weensy drawback. Nobody knows how to get electricity well would you fancy trying to collect it up?Thought not.
In at atmospheric atlantic something like 100 stroms a year look set to become full scale hair raisng hurricanes. But you can relax only six or seven ever make it Phew! around the world about 35 tropical stroms a year reach full hurricane status and they have their seasons youd better keep away from the atlantic and northern pafic oceans between July and October, this is when the seas reech atoasty worm 27degresse.South of the eqauaterand off Australlia, the strom season lasts from November to March. So if you're thiking about it, April May and June look the safest mounths to book that four star luxary cruise.
Hurricanes are like seeds
Hurricanes are marked out of 5!
