Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)
The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) was created during a meeting of 422 Palestinians in 1964. The primary goal of PLO was the liberation of Palestine trough armed struggle. The most prominent way of the PLO to gain self-determination during the early days of its existence is through terrorist attacks although officially recognized by the United Nations. PLO did not have a significant history during the first decade with the exception of a few minor terrorist attacks. Yasser Arafat then changed PLO. From 1969-1970, he waged a war on attrition against Israel. A few years later the adopted a ten point program which governed the law of the Palestinians. In the mid-1970’s, PLO had a prominent position in the Lebanese Civil War. After that, Yasser Arafat tired a more peaceful war including recognizing Israel as a country. For the Oslo accords, Arafat agreed that Israel had the right to be in peace. During the past decade, the PLO has done less fighting had become a more peaceful group although still considered to be the richest terrorist group.
The Palestine Liberation Organization has a huge significance in the present day Middle East. Since this organization encourages terrorist attacks on many places including most countries in the Middle East. Another important fact is that this organization encouraged Saddam Hussein to attack Kuwait in 1990. This organization still encourages many factions in the Middle East to become one ethnic group. This group is called “the richest of all terrorist organizations.” In 2004, American congress voted that PLO is a terrorist group in the war against terror.
