'' . . . the arts are part of what makes people well educated. Take them away and people will be less well educated . . .'' -Charles Fowler
As I mentioned earlier I want my future students to develop into engaged learners and free thinkers. This class has given me the opportunity to discover ways to develop these kinds of learners. The first way that I have learned to engage my students is through technology. I understand that future students will be expecting their schooling to be relevant and engaging, and because we live in a technology age, technology in the classroom is necessary. This class has shown me many specific examples of technologies that could be beneficial in an aesthetic education setting. Such sites that I have explored and used myself are glogster, voicethread, teacher tube, youtube, podcasts and wordle. These are all engaging sites that can be used in aesthetic education. The second benefit to using technology and art in the classroom is that is encourages imagination and convergent thinking. When students start experiencing all that technology and art have to offer they will begin to have their mind and imagination open to any possibilities. Perhaps the most important concept I have learned in this class is that art and aesthetics is simply a part of life and a part of a well rounded person’s life. If I fail to let my students experience art, I am not giving them an accurate view of the world and themselves.
