Mad Cow Disease by: kayla Mcvey
My project is on mad cow disease. My disease is neither a bacteria nor virus its called a prion this means its half virus because it does not contain DNA. The real name for this disease is bovine spongiform encephalopathy. What happens with this disease is the cattle gets very stiff making it hard to walk, excessive licking, high stepping, and also anorexia. This can be transferred by the food the cows eat. it also has a four to five year time period so when a cow has it, its hard to tell how far along they are with it. There is no why of curing my disease. This disease was first discovered in Britain. There is no specific way to stay away from this uless you dont eat meat but the chances are very samll to get it this is a rare disease. (http://www.mad-cow-facts.com/) . (http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/infections/bacterial_viral/mad_cow_disease.html).
These are the body parts that get affected by the disease
This is where mad cow disease was first discovered
This is the effects that mad cow disease have on cows and it also shows the normal function they had until they were diagnosed with mad cow disease
When cows are fed they get plenty of protein for every meal. There are also two types of cattle one is beef and the other on made for dairy. Cows are really known as ruminants because they only eat grass and plants. When a calf is first born it is taken away from its mother. Farmers use selective breeding this is when farmers choose the best bull and cow that could make the best baby. (http://library.thinkquest.org/TQ0312380/cow.htm)
