5 important discoveries related to the telescope - Jupiter and Saturn were discovered with the telescope - Sunspots were first discovered with the telescope - The Hubble Space Telescope is one of the largest and most versatile, and is well-known as both a vital research tool and a public relations boon for astronomy - The Hubble telescope discovered the Dark energy - Telescopes can see farther objects in space like supernovas and black holes, that the earlier telescopes cannot see
The reflector telescope that Newton designed opened the door to magnify objects millions of times. The earliest known working telescopes appeared in 1608, and the invention of the telescope is credited to Hans Lippershey, Zacharias Janssen, and Jacob Metius of Alkmaar.
Galileo discovered the craters of the Moon, sunspots, the 4 large moons of Jupiter, and the rings of Saturn. Galileo's telescope provided limited magnification up to 30X. In 1704, Sir Issac Newton announced a new concept in telescope design where instead of the glass lenses, a curved mirror was used to gather light and reflects it back to a point of focus.
History of the Telescope Phoenicians cooking on sand discovered glass around 3500 BCE, and took about 5,000 years after to discover to shape glass into lens for the first telescope. The telescope was introduced in astronomy in 1609 by Galileo Galilei .
Different types of telescopes Refractors- This type of telescope is easy to use and reliable due to the simplicity of design. These telescopes requires little or no maintenance. This type of telescope is great for looking at the different types of lunar, planetary, and binary stars. Newtonian reflectors- This type of telescopes are also known as Newtonians or Catoptrics. This type of telescope is different from the other telescopes because it has the lowest per inch of aperture compared to refractors and Catadioptrics. These telescopes show very bright images and are low in optical abberations.
Different types of telescopes Catadioptrics- These telescopes are the most popular type of instrument with the most modern design. This telescope is very good for looking at different planetary, lunar, and binary stars. This telescope can take pictures or photos , and this type of insturment is excellent for deep sky observing or astrophotography with fast films or CCD's.
