Inca Road
3. The runner carried the message from one relay station to another, then as he got to the next relay station a person blew a conch shell to alert the next runner to go.
1. Young men studied to be runners for the Inca messenger system.. They carried orders and news from one empire to another.
2. If they didn't get to the empire with the correct message, harsh consequences were served. Each runner ran as fast as they could for short periods of distance along the Inca Roads.
5. This would be repeated and repeated until they got to the Empire. They ran a total of about 250 miles a day.
6. When the messages were secrets, runners carried the messages in a form of knots and colored string. They had to practice very often, to run as fast as they did.
4. Without stopping, the first runner told the second runner the message. Then, the second runner raced ahead to the next station.
