When someone says there is a fancy-dress party in England, they don't mean it's black-tie. Instead, 'fancy dress' means the party is costume-themed. They are more common than you think. So when Anne started texting me to coax me into coming to a last-minute rock&roll fancy dress shindig in the next building over, I was skeptical. I asked her boyfriend Chris to send me a picture of the party's so-called worth. He texted me back a picture of him and Anne smiling into the camera. With friends like that, I had no choice but to put on my punkrock kit and head over.
