Philip
Rome was not quite intrested in world domination, the Hellenistic Empire was never viewed as a threat up until the Punic Wars began Rome was so vclose to being destroyed by Carthage & The Macedonian Kingdom in the Second Punic War. King Philip, the leader of Macedon and King Antlochus III of Seleucid came together to try and build the Roman Empire. But, after the terrible incidient with Carthage, the Roman people were rather skeptical whether they wanted to expand or not. This brought about the First Macedonian War against Philip, they asked him to stop seizing the Greek's territory. Philip then refused and this in 200 B.C. brought about the Second Macedonian War under the help of Flaminius . The Romans then declare the Greek cities Free., Rome felt like they were the protectors of Greece.. but this sure became untrue. Rome eventually invaded Greece again in the Third Macedonian War . This resulted in Rome taking control over the Greece land but not taking over the territory. To bring it all into a nutshell, Rome protected Greece from being overthrown, they wanted the Greeks to keep their land but the Romans wanted to take control over them and bring the Greeks under their ruling.
Greece Falls To Rome
Factors: - Political Weakness. Rome tried to rule a huge empire with a government designed for city-states. There was no civilian control of the military and no succession for the leaders. -Economic Decline: This was the most serious problem. The heavy government expenses army and public buildings. The Roman exonomy did not have enough wealth to support a great civilization. For example the middle classes were crushed by tax and public service. -Barbarian Invasions: Germanic attacks were brought about on the borders. The official end come in 476 AD with the fall of Byzantium, a state of anarchy resulted. With the leadership of Diocietian and Constatine helped the Empire to not collapse in the late 200's. Constatine then converted to Christianty and moved the capital from Rome to Byzantium. By 400 AD Rome was in a rapid decline for the factors that were stated above. This is why Rome fell.
