BOTTLED BEAUTY
a model today typically weighs 23% less than an average woman - that's 15% more than 25 years ago.
If Barbie were life-size, she would stand 5’9” and weigh 110 lb. (only 76% of what is considered a healthy weight for her height). Her measurements would be 39-18-33, and she would not menstruate due to inadequate levels of fat on her body. - www.snac.ucla.edu
DID YOU KNOW?
These days, the media has become the prime source for information for teens. Unfourtunately, most tabloids are filled with scandals and have the tendancy to criticize the weight of healthy-looking women. Models are stick thin, only something that can be naturally acheived by a meager 5% of the population. Beauty products are popping up everywhere; starvation or liquid diets are becoming more and more popular. We complain, but what do we do about it?
nothing.
the average teenager spends $949 annually on apparel and cosmetics. that adds up to $22.4 billion, from an age group that makes up only 9% of the population.
I'm one of the 1% of teens who have anorexia. Who would have thought?
Now, I'm not saying that caring about your looks is bad. But, taking it to extremes is both physically and mentally wounding. You know what they say,
beauty's only skin deep
"I'm beautiful, no matter what they say."
