Mercury Hg
Mercury can be used for a few different things. Some of the common uses are in thermometers, barometers, and fluorescent lamps. When mercury is used in thermometers it acts as the temperature sensor, and measures the rise and fall of it. When mercury is used in barometers it is combined with water and air in order to measure the atmospheric pressure orthe pressure exerted by the earth's atmosphere at any given point. Not only is it important in thermometers and barometers but it also plays a key role in fluorescent lights as well. When mercury is in fluorescent lamps it produces short-waves of ultraviolet light which is then turned into visible light. This occurs because of the excited atoms inside of the mercury. Mercury was named after the planet Mercury which is the innermost and smallest planet in the solar system. this element is rarely found in nature and is usually found in cinnabar, which can be found in Italy and Spain. Mercury is classified or grouped under Transition Metal. This element does not have a specific person who discovered it, but it was discovered in prehistoric times.
