How have they been acknowledged or honored?: Louis Riel published his own newspaper titled '' New Nation and established the legislative assembly of Assiniboia to pass laws.
What hardships/costs were involved in becoming distinguished?: He had to be hanged because he was working against the goverment. Riel found legal work unpleasant and by early 1866 he had resolved to leave Quebec .

What did you learn about their family?: Riels mother was the seventh child of Jean Baptiste-Riel his father died of premature death in 1864.
EXTRA INFO: -Riel was involved in a failed romance with a young women named Marie-Julie Guernon -Some of Riels friends said later that he worked odd jobs in Chicago, Illinios employed as a clerk in St.Paul,Minnesota prior to returning to Red River settlement on July 26 1868
