John F. Kennedy became President in 1960. He was loved by animals of all sorts, and they loved him too. But the weird thing is, he was allergic to all animal hair! Despite that, him, his wife Caroline, and his children put together a collection of pets including dogs, cats, ducks, rabbits, hampsters, guinea pigs, canaries, lovebirds, and ponies.
Lyndon B. Johnson was a tall Texan with a lot of energy. Almost immidiantly, he was an animal person. He always had the White House filled with dogs and puppies, but he never seamed to care all that much, even when they made messes. One dog Johnson owned was a small white, silky terrier named Yuki. He taught Yuki to do tricks, including how to "sing". Johnson would throw his head back, and howl, and Yuki would copy him, and they sung a duet together. Sometimes, when they were away, they'd call Mrs. Johnson and sing for her.
Thomas Jefferson was the 2nd President of the United States. Jefferson was very smart, in fact, he was really interested in mostly everything-except going to offical meetings. Jefferson owned several dogs, but the weird thing was, he hated dogs. He wrote to a friend once that ".. if I had the chance, I would exterminate the whole race." But, where Thomas grew up, wild dogs would attack and eat the livestock like sheep, which caused a big threat to farmers.
Although Jefferson didn't like dogs, he did have a pet mockingbird named Dan. He let the bird fly around in his study most of the time, and he would land on Thomas's shoulder when he was at his desk. Because he liked to hum when he worked, Dan would pick up the toon he was singing, and he would "sing" it back to him.

Pets of the President

President Rosevelt had 5 children, and each of them owned animals. Archie, one of his sons, owned a pony named Algonqiun, who was a tiny Icelandic pony, and "the best pet"., because the entire family loved him. Quentin and Alice both owned snakes. Once, Quentin burst into Rosevelt's office when he was having and offical meeting. His father suggested he go into the next room and show the four congressmen in the room next door his snakes. What a scene!
The Roosevelt family also had dogs, cats, guniea pigs, hampsters, birds, mice, and ducks. Quinten also had a pet macaw that he called "Polly Parrot", even though his name was Eli Yale.
To the left, is the infamous Quinten Rosevelt on his horse (:
