Windmills and How They Help Us By: Katie Kruszynski
poster yourself
First introduced in the
18th Century.
In today's world, windmills are being built offshore, in the oceans for the greatest wind use. Unfortunatly, they've more expensive to construct than the ones that are built on land. In the future, there are bound to be better ways and better places to built windmills to use wind more.
How do Windmills work? There are two different types of windmills that are used. The first (more commonly used) uses a horizontal axis, and the other uses a vertical axis, like an eggbeater. The blades are turned by wind passing over the mill. The wind is turned into electricity by the blades of the windmill that turns a driveshaft, which is connected to an electric generator.
