This book is about a young girl named Alice who's uncle was executed for being a trator. It tells the story of her taking her uncle back to the famly house in the country to be burried. In her adventures she befriends a hangman, falls in love with one of the Army officers trying to capture her, and has to deal with her crazy grandmother who eventuly saves her and her friends from the King and his Judges.
