Heart Attack
Myocardial Infarction
Most heart attacks are caused by a clot in the corronary arteries. This blocks oxygen from getting to the heart and this kills the heart cells.
The main symptom is chest pain, light-headedness and shortness of breath may also occur.
A chemical is injected into the blood stream which will clear the clot. If heart cells do not beat right the heart may need to be shocked.
The prognosis depends on the amount of heart that is damaged by the heart attack. About one third of heart attacks are deadly. For people who live irregular heartbeats are common.
