Removing Difficult Students: * Removal means that the student has been through every other consequence (see page), or has engaged in activity that is a serious/dangerous infraction. This includes fighting and possessing a weapon or controlled substance. * This is when I will call the office. Teachers must not be ashamed to call others in, as it is sometimes needed (Lindberg, 2005, p. 39).
Involving Parents: * Although we don't want to, sometimes contacting parents about negative situations will happen. This will occur with my students if I must pull them from class (Lindberg, 2005, p.55), and/or if patterns of infractions develops. I want to make sure everything at home is okay. * Positively, I have the notes home on progress reports (see Rewards page). If a student is just doing exceptionally well, I will always try to make time to call home and tell them how proud I am of their kid's progress.
Involving Counselors/Other Administrators: * If a student shows signs of acting out because of a personal problem, I will certainly inquire (Lindberg, 2005, p. 18). If my suspicions are confirmed, I will seek professional opinions (counselors, administrators, parents, et cetera). * If extreme misbehavior occurs, I will get help from the administration immediately (see Removing Difficult Students).
