Lesson Highlight: AP Env. Science Global Climate Change Research
Last month, Jim Sullivan & Mary Beth Nawor’s AP Enviro classes came into the library to conduct research on the myths & realities of Global Climate Change. After discussing what our community knows or understands about climate change, they came up with a list of questions for a survey that they would conduct in order to narrow their research, focusing on the specific issues that the community wanted answers to or were confused by....
Web 2.0 in the Classroom: Survey Monkey
Web 2.0 in the Classroom: Glogster
The classes used the online survey tool Survey Monkey to create a 10 question survey to be filled out by friends, family, or teachers. Each student asked 5 people to participate. Students analyzed the results and determined which issues/questions to focus on. Then the research began, using Global Issues in Context, GREENR, SIRS, and some non-for-profit websites. Along the way students learned how to evaluate the information they found for bias & accuracy as well as how to locate the original sources the information came from.
Lastly, students used Glogster to create an interactive and visually enhanced presentation about their findings. Each student created their own personal page, and then all of the glogs were linked together on one class glog. Click here to see an example of the final product of this amazing project (developed by Mary Beth Nawor and Erika Koesling as part of a KTI)!
The library has created Summer Reading Lists for each grade level. Click here to take a look, and pass it along to students you know who are interested in some great summer reads.
Summer Reading Lists
Join our Summer Book Club KTI and spend your summer reading & discussing the latest, award-winning young adult literature alongside your colleagues. Reading YA lit is a terrific way to forge new relationships with students. Stay tuned to My Learning Plan for more details. In the meantime, click here to see the list of books the class will be choosing from.
