The Mali Empire was a kingdom of West Africa. Founded by Sundiata Keita, it quickly became wealthy and powerful. It was also known greatly for the generosity and wealth of its rulers, such as Mansa Musa. When Mansa Musa learned about the Islam religion, he made it the official religion of his empire. Years later, when he was to complete his pilgrimage to Mecca, he gave out so much gold on the streets that the industry was davastatingly damaged.

Mansa Musa spent lots of money making sure there were plenty of Islam mosques for students and scholars to pray in.
