Bastille Day marks the day in history of when the French Rovolution started on July 14th, 1789. Bastille was a huge prison that was a mark of power in the day. If they could catch this prison, it would show that the King's power was'nt absolute anymore. After the prison was captured, it started a new sovereign Nation. Later on it became the first Republic in 1792. On July 6th, 1880, Bastille Day became the national french holiday. People in France greatly appreciate Bastille Day becuase it symbolizes the Republic in which they made. "As in the US, where the signing of the Declaration of Independence signaled the start of the American Revolution, in France the storming of the Bastille began the Great Revolution."
Bastille Day
On Bastille Day eve, people can be seen out in Bastille Square dancing where the prison was once located. Many people host fancy and elegant balls and dances. All city fire halls open their doors to host big parties. The firemen that work there are dressed in their full uniform the whole time. They are said to attract french ladies to them, haha.
Traditions! ^_^
These are the remains of the Bastille prison.
