India has now the largest non-European ethnic group in UK today. India was one of many colonies ruled by The British Isles. The Indian population is followed by the Pakistanis and then the Black Caribbeans. Africans. These people came to UK because they wanted to escape from poverty and get jobs; there were labour shortages in UK.
Notting Hill Carnival was initiated by London's immigration population from the Caribbean, particularly from Trinidad. Back in the 1950s and 60s, these black immigrants were facing harsh racism: limited job opportunities and poor housing conditions were the norm. They decided to create a festival in the style so synonymous with the Caribbean, to bring people together after the race riots of the 1950's.
Brick Lane is a street with imressions of immigrants. Today it is covered by signes of the Bangladeshis culture, and the street has become very famous for students, artist and tourists. Brixton is seen as a dangerous part of London by many people, deffined after the riot in the 1980's. 24 % of people in Brixton are people with African or Caribean background.
UK is filled with many beautiful models from all over the world. Sahar Daftary is a famous model in UK, and she is born in Asia.
I think the young people who belong to the biggest ethnical grup in UK, is treated whit equal with the English youths. But many children belonging to these groups grow up under poor and unsafe circumstances, and this have to change.
