Irish Americans in the Civil War
There were many names of the places where the Irish America's joined the war. The names that were used are as followed: 23rd, 29th, and 88th New York regiments, 1st New York Light Artillery, 140th New York Infantry, 116th Pennssylvania, 69th Pennsylvania, 28th Massachusetts
Almost all of the Irish Americans that were in the Civil War was born in Ireland.. Although most of them had immagrated from there homeland as well. All of the 150,000 men had joined the northern union army.
There were many important irish Americans. They had brave souls and gave their life ffor something that they belived in. Some of the names of those are as followed. -Michael Crcoran -Jame A. Mulligan -Dennis O'Kane -James McKay Rotty -Patrick H. O'Rorke -Geogre Meade -Philip Kearny -Philip Sherdan -Thomas Meagher -Mathew Brady
There were diffrent flags for each Biragade. The most comman things you would find on them are a harp and a shamrock. You would as well find that it is green and had Irish slogans and Irish symbols.
For those who had lost their lives, by fighting to keep our country toghter.There was a true and thoughtful valor writen to honor these brave men. ''The gallant Irishmen moved into battle array with the precision of parade. Prominent in its place beside the national standard, the green harp of Erin was distinctly observed.... The dead and the wounded strewed the ground, thickening as the distance from the enemy lessened. Twice and again the green standard fell, but only to be promptly seized again.''
Many places fought and many soldiers lost or forgotten but only as time goes on we notice that these memories are never forgotten. These places that are listed are only a few but most memorable to all. -Gettysburg -Fredricksburg -Chancellorsville -Antietam -Maryland
