~Birth and Death~ Birth: Born 1815, Port Tobacco Maryland. Death: Died October 1st,1864, Wilmington, North Carolina.
~Role in War~ Washington socialite and confederate spy. Povided information that allowed confederate forces to win the 1st battle of Bull Run.
~Role in War~ Was a prominent hostess in Washington society.. Learned about the union military plans from her important friends and passed the information along tho the confederate leaders.
~Family~ She had a husband named Dr. Robert Greenhow who was a wealthy southern gentle man who was wealthy and he died in the mid 1800's. She had 4 daughters, Florence, Gertrude, Leila, and Rose.
~Brave Acts~ She went to Europe. Still began to spy during imprisonment. Still spyed while she knew she was under survellance.
~Obstacles Faced~ Husband's death. Imprisonment.
~Beliefs~ When Rose was young, a family slave murdered her father. After that she didn't beleive that slaves should be free.

~Spying Methods~ Used her daughter, Rose, to carry out spy missions. Warned agents with a hanky in prison. She collected information from her friends and admirers in Washington. She got European leaders to donate money to the South. Sent coded messages to Richmond while she was under house arrest.
~Books Written~ My Impromisonment and the First Year of Abolition Rule at Washington. It was a best seller and it was popular in Europe.
