Elizabeth Van Lew
How Elizabeth helped prisoners was pretty clever she used invisable ink to write messages to prisoners inbetween ordinary letters. She also had made up codes and the way the prisoners would respond would be to underline certian words. Plus she would give the prisoners eggs and inside one of the eggs was a secret message.
Elizabeth's nickname was ''crazy bet'' because when she would visit the prisons and walk around she would act as a crazy person as part of her disguise
When elizabeth grew up she was raised in a confederate home, thinking that slavery was right. When her parents sent her to a school in the north she relized that slavery wasnt right. Not wanting to follow in her parents foot steps she decided to join the union by being a spy in the south.
