The drummer boys kicked off the battles between the north and south. They had drills just in case a special event popped up or a war and battles. The materials that the drums are made of are metel,tin,rubber,wood,and string. Johnny (Lincoln) Clem became a luitenant and retired after 46 years. In 1863 at the battle of Vicksburg a drummer boy of the union was wounded. Some of the drummers had to do chores on days that they did not have to train. Some of the drummers were not even 12 years old and a lot of them were between the ages of 10 and 37.
