Theobald Boehm invented the modern flute in France in the mid-1800's!
~The Flute~
There are more than 150 parts in the flute! The basic parts are the head joint, body, and foot. Special features include the embouchure plate, depressible keys, and tiny corks, springs, and screws. Flutes are commonly made of silver today, and weigh about 400gms.
The Flute is important in the culture of India . They believe that the flute music is a bridge between the complexities of nature and the musical realm. The flute, which they call a bansuri, is also a symbol of their deity Lord Krishna. It is also a prominent cultural instrument for Native Americans as it is used in legends of falling in love with their winchinchala, or 'choice girl'.
The flute is a member of the WOODWIND family. It is closely related to the piccolo and the alto flute. There have been many types of flutes invented as years have gone by.
The flute is the only woodwind lacking a reed!
