Gene Kelly
Gene Kelly was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 23, 1912. Growing up his love of dance grew while his parents enrolled him in dance classes on a regular basis. People often know him for his amazing dancing and theatrical performances. One of the most famous ones is "Singin' in the Rain". Kelly also created the Gene Kelly Awards held each spring to honor the work done by high school theatres in the greater Pittsburgh area. Even after his death on February 2, 1996 his performances are still treasured by up and coming dancers and The Gene Kelly Awards are still held every year by his wife Patricia Ward Kelly each year.

Gene Kelly was culturally connected to Pittsburgh. He felt strongly about giving back to the community and promoting young peoples intrests in the arts. The Kelly Awards also gives a young actor and actress scholarship awards as well as awarding a chance for one of them to take a trip to New York and learn from some of the best in the US.
