To understand the reaction of the Muslims, we must once again look at the historical context of the Third Crusade.
After recently uniting under leaders such as Saladin and reconquering land lost in the First Crusade, the Muslims were passionate and strong.
These factors lead to Muslims who are united to fight against the Crusaders under one leader, who have both a lot to gain with victory and a lot to lose with defeat.
Although Christian support waned in Europe after continued losses in the Crusades, both the concept of chivalry and the gallant leader Richard Lionheart put power behind this Crusade.
