Basketball was invented in the late 1890's and was founded by James Naismith. During the 1920's basketballs intensity arose to a much greater level of play and the rules tightened up.

Profesional basketball was introduced in the late 1920's and became very popular in the 1930s.
Basketball took another launch in 1925 and released playbooks and a rule book to keep players interested and learn the game up to it's ability.
The first official team, the Celtics, were created in 1922. They player about 125-150 games a season. The Celtics eventually became part of professional basketball's American League and then adopted the same rules as intercollegiate basketball and eliminated the two handed dribble. Basketball has always been played 5 men on the court at one time.
Celtics developed plays and tactics that revolutionized the sport. During the decade shooting skill was regarded as a good player's major attribute, with the ability to take a physical beating a close second.
